Murphysboro, IL / May 7, 2018 - Berean Christian Church is working with the Murphysboro Food Pantry to help provide nutritious meals to those in need by having monthly food drives that focus on specific types of foods.

For the month of April the congregation was asked to bring in donations of canned soup. Cases of soup were delivered and minister Troy Humphrey was excited by the response. Humphrey said, “Usually we think about the Food Pantry in the Thanksgiving and Christmas season, but the need is year around, so we are glad that so many brought in soup.” He went on to say that the month of May will be Meat May. The congregation will be asked to bring in any canned meat from Tuna to Ham during the month.

Murphysboro Food Pantry director, Megan Austin is appreciative of the effort. She said, “Since we serve all qualifying households of Jackson County, we are always grateful for donations provided by area organizations, businesses and churches like Berean Christian Church. We would not be able to serve our community without the kind heartedness of our donors.” And the Food Pantry serves the community well providing 840,000 lbs. of food offered to 36,500 clients in 2017.

If you would like to donate to the Murphysboro Food Pantry you do not have to give through Berean Christian Church or even contribute just canned meat.
